Mandalay Lake Villa

Designed in consultation with Sri Lanka's greatest architect Geoffrey Bawa, Mandalay is the epitomy of Sri Lankan style. Situated in the small village of Kathaluwe on Lake Koggala, Mandalay comprises of two separate pavilions, one for sleeping and the other for dining and entertaining. Both capture the spectacular views across the water to the mystical, uninhabited island of Madol Doova. A 25 metre pool sits on the verdant lawn that rolls down to the lake about 15 minutes from the historic town of Galle.

Mandalay is a tranquil haven, allowing one to relax and revitalise. You will be enthralled by the diversity of wildlife and all that nature has to offer. In a lovely sheltered position away from blasting ocean breezes, Mandalay has extensive views. From the lovely old railway bridge to the left, to the opening of the larger section of the lake to the right. The historic, uninhibited island named, "Mandol Doova", is your direct view.

Take breakfast on the pontoon. Enjoy lunch at the dining table beside the pool. What about sunset cocktails under the lake side attap. Then have dinner anywhere you choose. Mandalay’s courteous and talented staff will look after your every whim.

The main bedroom suite covers the entire upper floor of the sleeping pavilion with a spectacular, private balcony with views over the lake. The other spacious bedrooms both have modern ensuites, and one of the enclosed living areas can be transformed in to a fourth bedroom, if so needed.

Mandalay is only 5-10 minutes from some of Sri Lanka’s finest restaurants and bars.

But if you prefer to stay in, and many do, you can cast a line from the jetty and catch your own dinner. Of course if they’re not biting that day, don’tworry. The local fisherman will bring their catch of the day to your gate every morning.
